The lower the score, the less the degree of dysplasia present. The minimum (best) score for each hip is zero and the maximum (worst) is 53, giving a range for the total of 0 to 106. Each hip is scored separately under the BVA, so within the UK scores are usually displayed as two numbers separated by a forward slash (e.g. 2/6). Further reading
ED Scores:
Each elbow is graded from 0 – 3. The score reflects the level of normality and deformity of the elbow.
A grade of 0 would be attributed to ‘perfect’ or near-perfect elbow formation, a grade of 3 would reflect the maximum level of deformity.The highest grade awarded (right or left elbow) is used as the overall grade – i.e. a dog with one elbow graded 2 and the other graded 3 will be recorded as having an overall Elbow Grade of 3.
OCD Scores:
This is a developmental condition that occurs in rapidly growing large breed dogs typically between 6 and 9 months of age. Test results do not have a scale and only advise if is present or not in shoulders. More info:

Belle was 10.5 when we lost her in 2017 and was our second import, this time from Top Judge and Breeder Cathy Cooper of Shadetree GSMDs in Virginia USA. She certainly plays the part of a sassy "Southern Belle" at times but that is typical Swissy female for you. She was a great mum to her litters and has 20 gorgeous sons and daughters to her credit. She has been retired a few years now and spayed. She loves attention but is also happy on her own as she will take herself outside watching the world go by. Belle has taken her Grandma duties fairly seriously though she's glad she can give them back. Don't let her age fool you, many a squirrel has made that mistake...

RETIRED and waiting over Rainbow Bridge
Luca was almost 12 yrs when we lost him Aug 2017 and the best Swissy male I could have had for a first of the breed. He won two puppy classes abroad with his breeder before I collected him from Swizterland at 10 months old on the old Pets Passport Scheme. He has the classic block head and the best temperament and character - the bonus was his excellent health screens. He has sired 17 lovely puppies all of whom inherited his lovely temperaments and health. He adores people and kids and gets along with everybody on his walks. He can dig huge snow holes and likes nothing more than to drag people into snow-banks!
He is living the life of a retired country gent with us and loves meeting new people. Luca 11.5 yrs and Belle 10 yrs were the oldest Swissies in the UK with the best health screens at the time in 2017.

The Breeder co-owns Kai with a Family in Hertfordshire who say this about him: "He's a gentle giant who thinks he is a lap dog - Kai loves to sit on the couch with us and will try to cuddle up as close as he can. Thank goodness we've never let him in the bedroom. He loves anyone who shows him the slightest attention, is fantastic with children and is incredibly tolerant and gentle. Kai snores at a volume to match his size."
Since May 2014 the Breeder advised the Family that Kai's plaque issue needed addressing and advised a product to try but if that did not work he needed to go into the vet and have them cleaned and scaled. Upon seeing Kai's teeth at Crufts 2015, the Breeder advised again to sort the teeth and said he could not be shown and would not do so well that year because of the condition of his teeth. The owners said they would sort them out. Well it was not until the summer of 2016 when finally Kai went to the vets to have them cleaned and scaled but we all know how quickly the damage can be done. It can also affect other areas of the body in the future. This upset the Breeder because she would have had him back to her vets much sooner to sort the teeth. The Family would never have left their two children's teeth that long and in that condition! They started to become distant from the Autumn of 2016 and Kai did not attend any shows nor Crufts 2016. He developed a benign cyst by one eye which the Family informed the Breeder about and the Breeder advised them to monitor it but it would probably need removing. Sure enough early in January 2017 the cyst was removed but also, because of the deliberate neglect on Kai's teeth from Bath show in May 2014 to the summer of 2016 when he finally had them cleaned and scaled, several teeth had to be removed. Some how that was a shock to the Family when to the Breeder and many others who are experienced owners and very knowledgeable Breeders and Judges, it was not. Clearly there is lack of trust by the Breeder now and concern about Kai in the future. Kai remains their family pet and will remain in Co ownership with the Breeder because no way will the Breeder allow any further neglect on Kai. He is now 5 years old and hopefully he will have many more happy years.

Jake is a lovely big boy. He loves life and everyone. He attained 1st in his class then Best of Sex and qualified for Crufts. Slow maturers take their time so we will see how he comes along. Jake lives with a lovely family where he loves being the only dog.

Nora is a lovely puppy, full of fun and mischief, super friendly with people, kids, dogs etc and will enter the show ring in 2020. I am now over 2 years old and matured as you can see in the latest photos. I am a happy girl like my big brother Gunnar. Hope to be out at some shows in 2020.
