WELCOME TO SWISSHAVEN
The home of Great Swiss Mountain Dogs
in the UK
At Swisshaven we place the ongoing health and temperament of this wonderful breed above all other considerations. This is our hobby and the dogs are family pets first and foremost, and any litters are carefully planned to produce the most sound dogs possible for us to keep to show and to continue the healthy lines. The surplus puppies go to pet homes and some work as therapy dogs in schools and with traumatised children of which we are very proud.

Latest News:
We keep to show as it is our hobby so the surplus pups (by products) go to pet homes and into therapy homes. Quality, healthy puppies, reared in the family homes, comprehensive puppy packs, goodie bags, and micro chipped at 7 wks old and off to their homes at 8 weeks old.
Contact for further information. We can give details of home reared litters where pet pups are available after breeders have kept to show and continue their established, healthy bloodlines. We can let you know if we have pet pups available once we keep to show.
Nov 2025:
Older surplus furbabies needing their families now.
As a Hobby Breeder, passionate about my breeds for over 45 yrs now, all the care, dedication, blood, sweat and tears that go into my dogs and litters with selective, careful decisions on stud dogs, I would not have a better hobby.
I have attended many seminars, lectures and training events from the late 80s to just before Covid struct. I attended a talk run by the UK Kennel Club at Bristol University Vet College in Langford outside of Bristol before 2020 where I met a nice young lady from Wales. The talk was about Epilepsy, I was the only Swissy owner/breeder in attendance but there were many other owner/breeds from other breeds there. I mentored this young lady some months later when she wanted to breed her lovely female Frenchie who was such a character and sadly passed away recently. She was an excellent mum to her puppies.
So, when I received a few days ago an invitation from the UK Kennel Club to be one of their Breeder Mentors to first time Breeders, because of my wealth of knowledge and years of experience, I duly and happily accepted. Breeding should never be taken lightly and the female's welfare is first and foremost from mating to whelping and beyond.
With all the years of experience and knowledge which goes into our hobby, it is down to careful, selective stud dogs for our breeds along with our great successes at Championship Dog Shows in the UK and Crufts, you need go nowhere else for a lovely Swissy as all our adults have full health screens Hips, Elbows and Shoulders) and Swissy DNA Bundle tests way more than the hips state for the breed on the UK Kennel Club page.
2025: Autumn - Richmond Championship Show AVNSC Working 1st Open Bitch, Best Bitch & Best of Breed which qualified our lovely girl for Crufts 2026.
As hobby breeders, after choosing our pups for showing, there are a few surplus available to pet homes only.
With the three heatwaves so far this summer, way to hot to show our girls but we will be out in the Autumn.
From 2024 our surplus pups, after we choose for showing, only show pups and therapy pups will be registered with the KC, the pet pups will not be registered with the KC as they are pets, not for show not breeding. We had some enquiries asking without KC registrations. Same comprehensive puppy pack etc just not KC Registered for surplus pet pups.
If anyone wants to know about the breed, interested in an awesome puppy (any surplus puppies are mostly males as we keep females to show so sometimes there are only 1 or 2 surplus female pups available) or a re home, then get in touch. Make sure you are 100% geunie and sure you are ready to have a dog and everything in place to ensure a smooth arrival.
Sadly re homes do have to come back mostly through no fault of their own. Usually from family breakups, a family member has a breakdown but also cost of living. If anyone is seriously considering giving a lovely re home his or her forever home get in touch.
There is another new Health test available, the Swissy Bundal through the DNA Lab in the UK that we always use. This is not compulsary but we started to do it a few years ago and glad to say the dogs tested so are all Clear. There have been some deaths to hearts in Swissies in the UK outside of our bloodlines and I know our dogs are all fine as I heart tested my two foundation dogs 19 years ago all Clear. The UK Breed club does not make health testing mandatory nor has it, in over 16 years now, submitted to the UK KC that all Swissies should be health tested before breeding for HD ED OCD Eyes and the GSMD Bundle. The club allows a free for all breeding some health screened and others not!
Top Breeder in Breed 2017 in Ireland again with a dog that lived there with his family.
WI am the only one Eye Testing litters at 7 weeks old, Continuing P2Y12 testing, always micro chipped, vet checked and have the Assessors in to carry out the PAT on each puppy at 7 weeks old.
The only one doing x rays on the adults for Hips, Elbows and Shoulders in the UK and prelims on pups 7-8 months old. ALL health screens can be seen when visiting. ALL my Swissies for the last 18 years are ED & OCD Free.
None of the dogs have developed and died from Epilepsy & Bloat so far.

This site will continue to be a work in progress and updates and photos added as and when needed. If you have specific questions in the meantime just give us a call or email and don't forget to check out our Facebook page for hundreds of pictures of the dogs!
